Assess and respond to the skill requirements of the industry and individuals
and help secure the UK maritime skills base. To meet this objective we will carry out the following activities:

Compile and maintain relevant Labour Market Information and Skills Foresight reports
covering sea-going and shore-based staff

Prepare and implement a Workforce Development Plan for sea-going and shore-based staff

Set, implement and monitor sector targets
Promote investment in people and life-long learning as central to competitive
business performance and to developing the potential of individuals.
To meet this objective we will carry
out the following activities:

Promote the use of national occupational standards and ensure the relevance of
vocational qualifications

Increase the number of companies committed to Investors in People (IiP)

Identify the learning and career pathways for all sea-going and shore-based staff and
communicate them to key partners

Ensure that appropriate qualifications are available and accessible at all levels
Promote the supply of maritime skills in accordance with industry commitments.
